This blog page is an effort to create an up-to-date list of creative writing contests and useful resources for writers. The content published here is compiled from various literary websites, e-zines and magazines and summarized by me. The thoughts, suggestions and tips on literary writing are written by me. All the stories related to the contests will be posted in a uniformed, easy accessible and visible text format. Only essential information about the contests will be provided: deadlines, description, guidelines, prizes and contacts.
The concept is not to simply re-post existing contents with no selection criteria. All resources will be researched (checking the publisher's history, previous contests etc.), reviewed (if I have participated or if I'm familiar with the publisher) and categorized in a well organized structure before they are promoted on the list.
My main focus is on competitions with no entry fees because I believe that they can be a an excellent exercise and confidence boost for young writing enthusiasts and amateurs. Beginners can try out their writing skills and be reviewed either by peers or professionals without having to pay anything. If they prove to be good enough, they could even get published or earn some money. Of course, since there are no reading fees, the quality of the reviews and the amount of the prizes are at significantly lower levels. However, this is not a rule. There are quite a few contests organized by established literary magazines and publishers.
Bigger competitions which require entry fees, information on literary grants and residencies and links to other resources are also included in the list.
