The Missing Slate is calling for submissions for their first Hallowe’en writing contest. Candidates can submit their works for 3 categories: short fiction, micro fiction and poetry

Guidelines

Fiction
  • Send work to fiction@themissingslate.com.
  • Word limit is 3,000 words.
  • Your story should be attached to your cover e-mail as Microsoft Word files (.doc or .docx).
  • Label your e-mail and attached Microsoft Word file as Your Name – Hallowe’en Horror Contest.
  • We publish in Georgia 11pt, justified, no indentations with 1.5″-2.0″ line spacing, and it would be helpful if you could format your submission the same way.
  • You should include a third-person bio of around 50 words.
Micro Fiction
  • Send work to fiction@themissingslate.com or tweet @themissingslate (using the #tmscontest hashtag).
  • Micro fiction pieces must be under 150 words. 
  • Your story should be pasted into the body of your e-mail, or attached as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx).
  • Label your e-mail and any attached files as Your Name – Hallowe’en Horror Contest.
  • We publish in Georgia 11pt, justified, no indentations with 1.5″-2.0″ line spacing, and it would be helpful if you could format your submission the same way. 
  • You should include a third-person bio of around 50 words.
Poetry
  • Send work to poetry@themissingslate.com.
  • We’re happy to consider poems of any length.
  • Paste your poem into the body of your e-mail, or attach as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx).
  • Label your e-mail and any attached files as Your Name – Hallowe’en Horror Contest.
  • Please include a third-person bio of around 50 words.

Prize

Publication on our website during Hallowe’en week.
Specially commissioned artwork to accompany your piece.
A pack of exclusive The Missing Slate merchandise (likely to include a mug, a canvas bag and postcards).
Micro fiction and poetry winners will also have their work published on our social media pages.

Runners up
All runners-up will have their work published on our website and, for micro fiction and poetry, on our social media pages as well.
